There is a Portuguese word SAUDADE that I love and it cannot be expressed by one word in any other language.
It means a bittersweet longing for the beauty and love lost or far away — Remembering life with a lovely ache of knowing that beauty fades, but is here, in your hands, right now. Saudade is the desire to be transported from darkness into light. To be touched by the hand of that which is not of this world and to remember.
A photograph is a way of casting the moment in iron and holding it close forever.
I am a mother, a wife, a friend. I am a woman. I know how quickly children change and grow and just how fleeting our most gorgeous moments can be. Youth and beauty blooms and changes throughout our lives, but I find exquisite beauty sometimes even in the sadness change and loss can bring because it is a reminder that we are alive and life is fragile. You need to exist in pictures so you and your children can see you as you are now and remember.
When I take photographs, I feel like I can capture time making it into something emotional and permanent. I want to create art that will make you feel something when you look at it. And when you invite me into your life you are entrusting so much to me and that is not something I take lightly. My hope is to see the beauty in you and show it back to you.
And I promise to give you more than photographs —
I promise you art.
